ABSTRACT
The article reports on the condition of the metal industry in 2008 in the U.S. It states that at the first quarter of 2008, metal prices remained at high levels and demand remained strong despite the slowing economy. However, in the middle of the year, U.S. sales of steel and aluminum were slowing at a double digit rates which leads several industries to layoff its employees, close down their processing and distribution operation and enter into mergers and cooperation agreement.
