Methods for Improving Test Scores: The Good the Bad, and the Ugly

The article presents approaches on how to improve test scores. It discusses the unethical and illegal approaches in which the most common type of cheating allows extra time for slower students and leaving faster students work ahead on later sections of the test. It explores the legal, but marginally ethical approaches which require teaching the children that they should win at any cost. The best approach would involve the efficacious use of student data. Cognitive ability, attendance, and previous achievement scores data can determine those children who appear to have a problem passing high-stakes tests.
