ABSTRACT
The article focuses on airline fleet groundings. The percentage of the global jet fleet that is grounded is expected to exceed those set in the late 2001 economic downturn. Aviation consultancy Ascend reported that almost 2,300 jet airliners are now parked, with the 1,167 aircraft grounded in 2008 making 2008 the worst year for cutbacks since 2001. Fleet reductions have been announced by carriers in mid-2008, including 800 in North America, 450 in Europe and 230 in Asia-Pacific.
