ABSTRACT
The article talks about the hurdles faced by the U.S. in updating its electric grids. It is reported that the country is planning to install bigger electric grid that could help utilities match demand with supply and decrease the risk of blackouts. The government has allocated $11 billion in grants and loan guarantees to the task in the economic stimulus package but opposition to power lines from landowners, local officials and environmental groups is making the expansion difficult.
