ABSTRACT
The article describes the changes among the Berliners following the construction of the Berlin Wall, separating the Soviet sector of Berlin from the West by order of East German dictator Walter Ulbricht on August 13, 1961. It notes the acceptance of the fact that nothing can be done to remove the wall which brutally separates members of families in a manner which many fear is final. It cites the many tragedies that are played out on the Soviet side of the border.
