The article discusses research on the effects of the drug dronedarone, a derivative of amiodarone, in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). It references a study published in a 2009 issue of the "New England Journal of Medicine." Clinical data showed that drug lowered hospitalization and death rate of AF patients. Administration with 4 milligrams revealed that 5% of people died in the treatment group versus 6 in the placebo. Observed side effects include nausea, diarrhea and increased creatinine levels.
