ABSTRACT
The article reports on the growing popularity of text messaging and its possible use at 911 call centers in accepting emergency text messages as of March 2009. Advantages cited are the ability for callers to provide vital information like the location and description of the emergency while maintaining silence and the opportunity to handle more customers. Its limitation however is the lack of training in text messaging of 911 call center employees. Further research on the effectiveness of text messaging in 911 centers is recommended.
