ABSTRACT
The article discusses highlights of a survey by Health Facilities Management and the American Society for Healthcare Engineering on hospital construction in the U.S. Particular focus is given to the impact of recession on the sector. A total of $40.7 billion in hospitals and clinics was under construction at the start of the fourth quarter of 2008. About 42 percent of the 771 organizations surveyed said higher financing costs had caused them to delay or cancel building projects.
