ABSTRACT
The article states that about $230 million has been pledged by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, by the governments of Great Britain and Germany, and by Rotary International to fund a global campaign that will eradicate polio. The World Health Organization's Global Polio Eradicaton Initiative will provide disease surveillance and immunization programs. Polio statistics for Nigeria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Angola, and Chad are mentioned.
