Investigation of a Genotype Cluster of Tuberculosis Cases -- Detroit, Michigan, 2004-2007

March 2009
MMWR: Morbidity & Mortality Weekly Report;3/13/2009, Vol. 58 Issue 9, p226
The article reports on an investigation of eight tuberculosis (TB) cases of a genotype cluster recorded during December 2004 to April 2007 in the U.S. The index patient was said to have subsequently developed multidrug-resistant (MDR) from a previously drug-susceptible TB. The seven remaining TB patients reportedly matched the index patient with their Myocobacterium tuberculosis genotypes. The index patient's relative was said to be MDR while another died from TB meningitis. The report emphasizes the need for the prompt diagnosis and treatment of TB.
