ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the varying diversification strategies of automotive suppliers in West Michigan, based on case studies on Paragon D&E and Burke Porter Machinery Co. presented at a business forum organized by The Right Place Inc. in Grand Rapids. It relates the efforts of Paragon to diversify into other industries such as aerospace, alternative energy, marine, as well as nuclear energy. Burke Porter still works mainly for the automotive industry but started exploring the medical device and wind turbine manufacturing industries in 2008.
