The article presents a discussion about the occurrence of formaldehyde. Considered as the simplest aldehyde, formaldehyde is created by the oxidation or combustion of methane and other carbon compounds. Its existence in interstellar space was discovered in 1969 using the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. It can be used as a disinfectant and in photography.
