ABSTRACT
The article discusses ways to apply environmentally sustainable/green manufacturing to small companies. It cites for example the automotive assembly plant of Subaru in Lafayette, Indiana, which achieved a zero landfill status by implementing conventional recycling techniques. The energy savings measures that manufacturers could apply in terms of lighting systems, compressed air and electric motors are detailed. The roles of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles in reducing environmental impact are discussed.
