ABSTRACT
The article presents an economic outlook for Slovakia for 2009. Data from the Slovakian finance ministry revealed that the government recorded a budget surplus of €100 million in January. A budget deficit increase is expected as revenues remain under pressure. It is also predicted that a shortfall in budget deficit will widen to 3.9% of gross domestic product (GDP). Meanwhile, the parliament has approved a plan to allot €332 million in government spending with an aim to offset the effects of the global financial crisis.
