ABSTRACT
The article reports on the sales posted by Dell in the fourth quarter of 2008. For the quarter, Dell shipped 17.1 percent more compared to the same period in 2007. According to technology researcher IDC, the retail sales strategy of Dell has helped the company to return to double-digit percentage growth in global personal computer (PC) shipments. It added that the company's rapid expansion in retail also helped in increasing its volume and addressing competition from rivals. The author noted that Dell has been expanding in retail, cutting costs and making acquisitions since founder Michael Dell returned to take the chief executive officer (CEO) position in 2007.
