ABSTRACT
The article offers information on the first-ever board meeting of the "High Country News" board of directors held via telephone and the Internet on January 30, 2009. The focus of the meeting is on the financial condition of the journal and the effort of the organization to survive in the economic downturn. $100,000 in cuts, ranging from limits on travel and equipment purchases to reduced hours for several employees and no holiday bonuses was instituted.
