ABSTRACT
The article offers insights into how renewable energy resource investments are dealt with under the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) accounting rules. One issue is whether a business combination or an asset acquisition has occurred. Under IFRS 3 Business Combinations, it is required that an entity distinguishes between the acquisition of a business and a group of assets. Further complexity will be added when a revised ruling is introduced in July 2009 stating that a business need no longer create outputs that generate revenues.
