ABSTRACT
In this article the author discusses the issue whether implantable defibrillators are effective in preventing cardiac death among patients with heart failure. He presents the result of the study conducted by Soko Setoguchi and colleagues which focuses on the failure of implantable defibrillator to prevent cardiac death among out-of-hospital patients. It was found that patients with heart failure and at high risk of death will benefit from the devices, compared to those with low risk of death.
