ABSTRACT
The article reports on the decision of a Quebec appeals court in Canada to block the leveraged buyout deal from Bell Canada. The deal would have taken the telecom company, private. The court blocked the deal for Bell Canada on grounds that it would have been unfair to the company's current bond holders. It relates why the court opposed the plan of the buyers, a consortium led by Providence Equity Capital of Rhode Island and the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan to finance the deal by loading the company up with $34 billion in debt.
