ABSTRACT
The article reports on the launch of Virgle, a joint venture that touts open-source development to establish Earth's first human settlement on Mars, by Google and Virgin Group on the Fool's Day on April 1, 2009. The launch spoofed Google's supposed goal of world domination, presenting Virgle's 100-year plan, which includes an initial public offering (IPO), along with the first manned expedition to Mars in 2016. The hoax includes pages of explanation and a YouTube video featuring Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page.
