Infectious Disease Alert;Mar2009, Vol. 28 Issue 6, p36
The article discusses research being done on a risk situation for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection among adolescents who attend disco funerals in Kisumu, Kenya. It references a study by A. Njue et al published in the 2009 issue of the periodical "AIDS." Large gatherings, complete with party favors and disc jockeys, are being hosted by families of the deceased as a way to raise funds for funeral expenses. The researchers think that alcohol plays a significant role in forced sex, particularly with underage or teenage girls.
