ABSTRACT
The article reports that Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) has reached agreement to take over the Great Britain's largest rail freight operator, with the purchase of all shares in English Welsh and Scottish Railway Ltd. (ESW). DB will acquire the 31% stake in EWS and the remaining stakes held by investment groups Berkshire Partners and Fay Richwhite & Co. EWS takeover will give DB greater access to the French market, where EWS subsidiary Euro Cargo Rail is currently running around 30 trains a day.
