This article deals with the continued downward trend in European and Asian stock markets amid Lehman Brothers' bankruptcy and American International Group's (AIG) financial woes. In Japan, Nikkei Average experienced a five percent drop as several Japanese banks admitted their exposure to Lehman Brothers. Banking giants in Europe, such as Barclays, are also affected by the turmoil in the U.S. market. There are efforts by central bankers across the globe to inject funds into banking systems to ensure that markets remained liquid.
