The article reports that the BlackBerry Partners Fund launched its first wave of investment, participating in rounds totaling $16.7 million for Buzzd, Digby and WorldMate. The fund, co-managed by Canada's JLA Ventures and RBC Venture Partners, is betting that BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) can hold its own in the growing smartphone market against Apple's iPhone and handsets based on Google's Android operating system. In a bid to steal some of the iPhone's market share, RIM is rolling out two touch-screen models ahead of the holiday season.
