ABSTRACT
The article reports on the decision of publicly traded Yahoo and venture-backed Zillow to layoff part of their workforce in relation to the global economic crisis. Yahoo announced its plan to dismiss over 1,000 employees, while Zillow will trim its workforce by 25 percent. The decision of Yahoo to layoff employees resulted from shareholders' pressure to reignite growth. While Zillow's decision was influenced by demands from venture capitalists to reduce expenses.
