The second largest telecommunications company in the U.S. posted a 15 percent increase in profits to $1.2 billion despite a slowdown in adding new wireless subscribers. Its sales also increased to $24.6 billion. he company missed forecasts slightly on earnings per share. The company's mobile subsidiary, Verizon Wireless, added 1.2 million net new customers, which brought its total subscriber base to 72.1 million.
