ABSTRACT
The article focuses on a report by researcher comScore, which showed that online sales only increased by 1% in October 2008, being the lowest monthly growth rate since 2001. It indicated that the growth of retail e-commerce has decreased from 28% in August 2007 to near flat in October 2008. According to Gian Fulgoni, chairman of comScore, goods sold online are often discretionary, and as necessities like food and energy have become more expensive, people have less discretionary income.
