ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the status of the planned initial public offering (IPO) of Grand Canyon Education, an online nondenominational Christian college. Global Canyon plans to use the IPO to pay a special distribution of 75 percent of gross proceeds to stockholders. However, the author claims that the college may need some divine intervention to complete its planned IPO as it faces a moribund market that produced just one venture capital-backed IPO in the third quarter of 2008. In its IPO filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Grand Canyon disclosed that a lawsuit had been filed against it by a whistleblower on behalf of the federal government.
