ABSTRACT
The article reports that due to heavy losses and intense scrutiny in the wake of the global financial meltdown, hedge funds came under pressure to accept heavier government regulation in the U.S. A lineup of billionaire hedge fund managers testified before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee as a survey reported that hedge fund assets fell 16 percent in the third quarter of 2008. George Soros, of Soros Fund Management, predicted that hedge fund assets would contract by 50-75 percent.
