ABSTRACT
The article reports Morgenthaler Ventures has closed a $400 million fund in November 2008. The fund, Morgenthaler Venture Partners IX, brings the firm's capital under management to $2.6 billion. Venture capital firms have struggled to raise funds in recent months as limited partners pull back in response to the global financial crisis. Fund-raising for Morgenthaler's latest fund, however, was largely completed during the summer, before the economic downdraft gathered momentum. Morgenthaler portfolio companies include online shopping-comparison site NexTag and OncoMed Pharmaceuticals, which announced a $1.4 billion licensing deal with GlaxoSmithKline in 2007.
