London Dating Site Picks Up $19 Million

Under the deal, Index Ventures partner Dom Vidal will join the be2 board. Formed in 2004, be2 claims the Internet matchmaking site has more than 12 million members spanning 34 countries. The startup boasts 20,000 new member sign-ups per day. The funding will be used toward international expansion and to boost its user base. First launched in Germany, be2 has 228 employees at the site that targets a slightly older dating audience whose largest group ranges 30- to 49-years old. The be2 site offers its users instant messaging, blogs, photos, and video chat, among other features at the dating destination.
