ABSTRACT
The article reports that Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria SA (BBVA) is planning to lay off 1,200 people in its Compass Bancshares Inc. subsidiary. BBVA reported that these layoffs are not related to the global financial crisis of 2008 and 2009, but are part of its continuing efforts to consolidate its ownership of Compass, which it bought in 2007.
