ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the advice given by Richard Balarkas, chief executive officer (CEO) of Instinet Europe, on the best securities trading execution to use under the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID). The directive requires brokers to provide clients with an execution policy, but it does not specify what the policy must cover. Balarkas believes that improvements in execution will come in response to buy-side users. According to him, Instinet publishes its execution data in order to help buy-siders make sense of their options.
