The article looks at ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulfate formation and concentrations in the Northern Front Range. While ammonium nitrate concentrations are not affected by changes in ammonia or nitric acid precursor concentrations, ammonia concentrations might increase with emissions or from reductions in sulfur dioxide emissions. The atmospheric equilibrium between gas and particle phases for the ammonium nitrate, nitric acid, ammonia system is represented by the Simulating Composition of Atmospheric Particles at Equilibrium (SCAPE) method.
