ABSTRACT
The article reports that the graduate teacher training scheme Teach First has experienced a surge in applications as students switch to more recession-proof careers. James Darley, director of graduate recruitment at Teach First, which places top graduates in challenging secondary schools, said that applications for the scheme were up by 90 per cent this year 2009. It adds that last year, they received about 1,800 applications for 373 places.
