ABSTRACT
The article discusses the consequences of the economic crisis across the world. It states that the diminution of the U.S.'s overall ideological and economic importance compounded by its failed wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, is likely to undermine its influence in East Asia and its standing as both a regional and a global power. It outlines the nature of hegemony and its association with some of the theoretical implications and insights that emerge from the Asia-Pacific/East Asian case and the growing literature on comparative regionalism.
