ABSTRACT
This article reports on a 50-kilowatt wind turbine installed by Norfolk Southern railroad at its rail yard in North Kansas City, Missouri to power the wastewater treatment plant of the yard. The turbine is the second of the company and consists of 3 24-foot rotor blades mounted on a 100-foot tower. Chuck Wehrmeister, company vice president of safety and the environment, said they will continue to explore renewable energy applications for their facilities throughout their 22-state network.
