ABSTRACT
The article discusses research in molecular biology conducted by Scripps Research Institute professor Peter Schultz and colleagues. Schultz's team engineered a bacterial cell to work with a-hydroxy acids that contain an alcohol group where the amine would typically be. This acid forms an ester bond to link polymer subunits during translation.
