ABSTRACT
The article offers information on the certification of psychiatric rehabilitation practitioners and how it affects the field of psychiatric rehabilitation. It discusses the evolution of the certification of psychiatric rehabilitation practitioners, accounting the efforts of the U.S. Psychosocial Rehabilitation Association and its establishment of the Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioners (CPRP). It states that the goal of CPRP is to foster the growth of qualified, ethical, and culturally diverse psychiatric rehabilitation workforce by means of a test-based certification program and enforcement of a practitioner code of ethics. It notes that certification and credentialing often turn into tools for restricting change and put limitations on the exploration of new methodologies.
