The article reports on the performance testing of the radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology for the beef industry in South Dakota. Country-of-origin labelling (COOL) and national animal identification system (NAIS) must go together because one cannot be successful without the other. However, not all share the same enthusiasm and urgency for incorporating RFID technology into their programs. The progression of national system has slowed as technical and political issues have surfaced.
