In California, voters narrowly passed Proposition 8 to ban gay marriage, in Chicago, where the Board of Education tabled a plan to set up a special school to help gay kids who are picked on, or in Springfield. Chicago Public Schools reports that lesbian, gay and bisexual students are three times more likely than non-gay students to skip school as they feel unsafe and three times more likely to report attempting suicide.
