ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the arguments about same-sex marriage and civil unions in the U.S. Proponents and opponents of same-sex marriage both agree that marriage is a valuable practice and institution. Proponents of same-sex marriage consider civil unions as second-class alternative to marriage that debars gays and lesbians. On the other hand, proponents of same-sex marriage are concerned to protect the special status of marriage that requires heterosexual form whether or not they support civil unions.
