ABSTRACT
The article recognizes Maarten van der Weijden of the Netherlands as the 2008 Male Open Water Swimmer of the Year. The award was given to van der Weijden due to his performance in the Olympic 10K gaining gold medal as an arrow in the critical moments during the final straightaway. It is stated that he took a laser line to the finish and completed one of the greatest comebacks in Olympic history.
