The article reports on the low-power design technique using Unified Power Format (UPF). It cites that UPF, power-intent specification format, was being defended by Synopsys Inc., Mentor Graphics Corp., and Magma Design Automation Inc. and it is the main competitor of Common Power Format (CPF). UPF provides firm technical base for power-intent specification by using a power-domain-centric syntax for isolation, level shifting, and retention policies. The power-intent versatility of UPF on scope and extent gives a concise meaning for design-element in the complex logical hierarchy. Several graphs are presented on UPF power flow as well as the implementation or refinement scenarios of UPF.
