Food groups collectively influence diabetes risk

The article reports on a study which found that multiple food groups may influence the risk for type 2 diabetes. Research from different U.S. and Norway institutions considered four dietary patterns which include high intake of fats and processed meats, vegetables and fish, tomatoes and refined grains, and whole grains and fruit. It is reported that participants who ate a diet high in tomatoes, beans and refined grains had a greater risk for type 2 diabetes of 18%, and 15% for patients who ate more whole grains, fruits and low-fat dairy.
