Surgeon General issues call to action for DVT and PE risk

The article reports on the issuance by acting U.S. Surgeon General Steven K. Galson of "The Surgeon's Call to Action to Prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism 2008." The call was established in May 2006 by Department of Health and Human Services (HSS) officials over a two-year period and consists of the officials' discussion of risk factors and evidence-based treatment practices. It reports that the American Society of Hematology is encouraging Congress to support the national thrombosis surveillance system.
