ABSTRACT
The article discusses a study that analyzes the risk of sudden death of patients residing in Olmsted County, Minnesota over a 28-year period who had myocardial infarction. It defines sudden death as out-of-hospital death caused by coronary heart disease. It states that in this county, 3,296 incidents of myocardial infarctions occurred from 1979 to 2005. It also states that the hospital survivors were 2,997 and their mean age was 67. It also notes that 1,160 deaths occurred among these survivors over a median follow-up of 4.7 years.
