ABSTRACT
The article reports on the decision of the German defense ministry to reverse its plans to reintroduce the Iron Cross, after opponents cited the medal's association with Nazi atrocities. The ministry is looking for a replacement medal to recognize German soldiers' wartime service in modern-day combat zones.
