ABSTRACT
The article reports on the approval granted by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission to the merger of Sprint Nextel Corp. and Clearwire Corp. The merger aims to build a nationwide Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMax) network which will provide mobile broadband data services before the other companies could upgrade their network. Meanwhile, Sprint Nextel's acquisition of Clearwire is said to be the first step of the company to gain access to a broadband data network.
