ABSTRACT
The article discusses the importance and need for theoretical research. It says that there is a challenge to understand the limits of the intellect and the ability to stimulate the imagination. The history of theoretical research is said to be complex and sporadic and there are favourable and unfavourable factors that may influence its future. It also notes that the adverse factors are considerable but the vitality and enthusiasm of man will sustain the advance of theoretical research.
